<\/p>\nGiven the situation in Ukraine, housing is the most relevant segment of real estate today. It is the large shortage of residential premises that prompts everyone who works in the real estate market of Ukraine to pay attention not to this segment. \u201cAt the moment, apartments are mostly being built from scratch, although there are many abandoned industrial zones in the country that are offered for industrial enterprises or reconstruction into commercial premises,\u201d says Evgenia Loktionova, director of the UTG company. \u2013 \u201cBut few people think that they can make beautiful loft apartments. This is what international practice shows, how it is possible to carry out a reconceptualization of industrial zones and cheaply and effectively adapt obsolete enterprises into residential complexes.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the manager, a good example of such a transformation is the large-scale restoration and repurposing of the iconic Battersea power station in London. The reconceptualization has created new event spaces, shops, restaurants and cafes, large open-plan office spaces and, most importantly, a series of apartments arranged around rooftop garden areas above the boiler room and engine room. Residential elements are a mixture of newly built apartments and villas.<\/p>\n
The residential units, named Switch House West and Switch House East, are located on either side of the power station, with Boiler House in the center, which frames an open landscaped garden. Residents of the converted Switch Houses enter the building through landscaped plazas at ground level, while the Boiler House villas are accessed via a glass elevator between the structural beams of the former wash towers, where the famous chimneys are visible above. At the same time, residential objects have various layouts and sizes depending on their location in the building. Battersea welcomed its first residents in May 2021.<\/p>\n
In addition to housing, shopping areas have also opened in the restored turbine halls. On three levels of specially designed galleries, there is a wide range of restaurants, shops and event spaces, creating a bright and exciting atmosphere throughout the day.<\/p>\n

The original control rooms of the power plant were also completely restored with their period style. One control room has become a unique event space, while the other has been transformed into a 24-hour bar where visitors can get up close to the original dials and controls. And a glazed elevator takes visitors to the top of the building\u2019s 50-meter north-western pipe. Carrying up to 30 passengers, it rises 109 meters above the ground, offering a 360-degree view of London. This attraction is open to the public and available for private events.<\/p>\n
The complex also has office space on the six floors of the upper boiler room. They attract international creative tenants who are committed to new working methods, open-plan spaces and industrial aesthetics. The largest among them is the Apple company, which occupies more than 46,000 sq.m of space on six floors. And a huge atrium in the center of the office space, along with others at the north and south entrances, filters light to all floors, opening up views of the chimneys above.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
