Experts of UTG, the leading Ukrainian consulting company specialized in commercial real estate management, have analyzed the standard of living and monthly expenses` distribution of Kiev residents. Quantitative survey was carried out in the way of door-to-door standardized face-to-face interview. Sample group included 800 respondents, that allowed a margin of sampling error less than 3,5% in case of maximum dispersion.

According to the survey, population with average standard of living prevails among Kiev residents. 62% of respondents can allow purchasing elementary consumer items, major purchases of household appliances and furniture cause difficulties. On the whole the average level of a monthly family income is about 8,700 hryvnas. Distribution based on the standard of living, according to the survey, is the following: about 2% of population earn no more than 3 000 hrn a month per family, 24,1% from 3 to 6,500 hrn, 22,1% from 6,5 to 8,200 hrn, 13,8% from 8,2 to 10000 hrn, 10% from 10 15000 hrn, 5,5% from 15 to 20000 hrn, 3,5% over 20000 hrn.

Only 11% of those surveyed claimed that have a sufficient family income level to allow themselves products of all consumer groups except for major expensive purchases (cars and real estate property).


Analysis of monthly expenses of the capital`s population has revealed the following distribution:

  • 33,6% of monthly income is accounted for food stuff by Kiev residents;
  • 14,8% of family budget is spent on payment for utility services;
  • 13,3% clothing and footwear purchases;
  • 9,7% saved up for the future;
  • 7,2% other purchases;
  • 6,6% debt payments;
  • 5,4% transport;
  • 5,3% entertainment;
  • 4,1% outdoor food and beverage.

As a result about 64% of family budget is accounted for consumer expences.


In comparison with the survey results, held the last year, an increased degree of utility services, as well as a decreased degree of consumer expenses is observed.
